the person behind

the person behind

I paused a long while before writing this. There is a particular kind of silence to an empty page — and a particular vertigo in being asked to name yourself within it. How do you fold a whole person, with all their complexity and contradiction and ordinary strangeness, into a few sentences without committing some kind of injustice?

Nevertheless, I shall try. I live on the sunny island of Singapore. Açaí is my happy pill, dance is my therapy, and somewhere in between I am an academic and an educator.

I believe every person has a purpose — that we are something like constellations, single points of light that only reveal their shape once the lines between them are drawn, coalescing into a pattern of meaning. For me, I hope my research might generate knowledge that is useful to society, and that my work as an educator might leave some quiet imprint on younger minds.

I have a love-hate relationship with the art of putting words to paper. It lets me express myself — and yet, how can any words hold the full complexity of what I think and feel? Still, I want to write. I want to write so I can hold on to life's moments, in all their ebb and flow.

So this is me — or as close as a few paragraphs can come. If any of it resonates, then I'm glad you're here. Stay a while. Read along, in all its ebb and flow.
